Hunt Point Retrievers
The Hunt Point Retrieve section of the BWWGS are endeavouring to put on for its members and those interested in the various HPR breeds a varying calendar of events. We cater for all the breeds in the group. We are not breed specific. The breeds include the following; Bracco Italiano, Brittany, German Shorthaired Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer, German Longhaired Pointer, Korthals Griffon, Hungarian Vizsla, Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla, Italian Spinone, Large Munsterlander, and Weimaraner (longhaired and shorthaired, but all the same breed).
For those who have not heard of this group of dogs, they are all continental gundogs that were imported into this country in the second half of the last century and are expected to do three elements of work. They are very versatile and in the main are used as rough shooting dogs and can adapt their pace to suit different terrains such as woodland, moor and marshland, but some are better suited to specific ground than others as their breeding, size, structure and movement dictates. Some of their ancestors were bred to hunt wild boar and deer but today’s dogs are expected to work on fur and feather. They are also popular with falconers and deerstalkers.
Our calendar of events cover Field Trials and Gundog Working Tests, carried out under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations, Spring Pointing Tests, Grouse Pointing Tests, Field Trial Training, Water Training, and initial Gundog Training (2nd Tuesday afternoon in the month) for puppies, beginners, novice, dogs and handlers. Our aim is to enjoy our dogs and to see them doing naturally what they were bred to do.
